These 5 SEO Tips Will Boost Website Visibility

Easy SEO Tips

I ran across these SEO tips today and wanted to share them with those companies endeavoring to gain more attention on Google and the other search engines.

Nowadays, we're all engaged in a high-stakes fight for eyeballs, mindshare and clicks on the Internet. The nice thing is you don’t have to be the largest company with the deepest pockets to win your fair share of attention.

The SEO pointers below are by no means arcane SEO secrets; I’ve employed them on my own customer websites to great advantage. What’s more, they’re fairly easy to implement and will do wonders for your ability to move up the SEO rankings. So give them a try and watch for the results after a few weeks.

  1. Permanent Redirect: this is where a website domain name can be entered simply as WebsiteName.com and the Internet will automatically re-direct the browser to the www.WebsiteName.com. This may sound trivial, but never underestimate the importance of making it easy to be found by would-be visitors! I’ve included a link to a website that explains how to redirect a webpage in a variety of scenarios, including the one described here. Feel free to give me a call at 512-255-7243 in case you need a little extra help!
  2. Webpage Title: be sure to keep the title of your webpage to 70 characters or less. For those unfamiliar with what a webpage title is, it’s the part in the HTML code that tells search engines the title of a specific page. The title is shown at the very top bar on a browser window you have open. Search engines consider the Title one of the primary indicators of a given webpage’s content. That’s why it’s important to use the 70 characters wisely to present the main keywords for your webpage
  3. Linkbacks: these are links to your website that originate from other websites. Linkbacks are used more and more by Google and other search engines to objectively determine how important a website is. The logic goes something like this: The more links to a website from other websites, the higher it is ranked. When those links are to websites that themselves are highly trafficked and are seen as authoritative on a given subject / industry, the higher your website’s rankings will be as a result. Now, it’s equally important that your website be linked with websites that share similar content or subject matter. While it’s nice to be linked to an industry authority on Cloud CRM, it won’t help you much if you’re a purveyor of kids’ bicycles! So the key is to find as many related website in which to embed your links as possible. And be sure to embed your links into the very keywords that are used on your website. For instance, “kids BMX bikes in Chicago” might best capture what it is you sell and in what market you sell. There are different ways to embed a hypertext link / URL, so if you’re not sure it would be wise to consult with your website developer. You're also more than welcome to give me a call at 512-255-7243 if you want to learn how!
  4. Keyword Density: this refers to how often your keywords appear as text on your website. You would ideally want each keyword to represent 3-7% of the total word count for the page being optimized. The logic search engines employ in their search algorithms puts more weight on the frequency of a given keyword relative to the rest of the text. Going back to our earlier example of kids’ bikes in Chicago, if your website mentions those keywords and / or phrases up to 7% of the time, the search engines will rank that page higher than ones that mention them less frequently.  The higher the keyword density means a website has invested more in those terms and may stand a better chance of being an authority than a website with a lower keyword density.
  5. Keyword Selection: just as it’s important to get your website’s keyword density right, it’s just as important, if not more important, to make sure you have selected the keywords that will attract the most qualified visitors to your website. Back to our kids’ bikes in Chicago example, if you really want to go after the mountain bike crowd, then it probably makes sense to optimize keywords most relevant to your subject. The question is what are the key words that potential customers use most to find what you are offering? The answer is pretty simple. Just ask them! Whether you do this by phone, in person or in a survey you email matters not. Talk to your current customers to find out what keywords they would use if they suddenly had to find a replacement for what you provide, be it a service or product. Ideally, you should ask as many as possible, at least 20, if not more, to get a decent sampling of keyword terms. Once you have a fairly representative sampling of keywords, you should look for ones that repeat most frequently or indicate a general business theme from which you can derive accurate keywords. This is a fairly straightforward example that may take you about a half day to complete. If you have any questions on how best to approach your customers with this kind of question, feel free to give me a call at 512-255-7243!

These easy SEO tips should get you well on your way to gaining more website visitors. Give them a few weeks to a month to take effect though, as the search engines don’t crawl your website each and every day. To measure the effects of the changes, you might consider having Google Analytics added to your website before you start. That way you can have a baseline understanding of your website traffic before and after the changes.

Good luck from your friends at The Sage Closer!
